Wow! I might be taking on too much

I'm getting ready to celebrate my daughter's second birthday.  My son just turned 6 months old. We are battling his weight gain issues and all my daughter's allergies.  I am going through a divorce and planning to marry my amazing fiancĂ© next year. I'm fighting PCOS and was diagnosed with a cervical prolapse. I'm loosing weight and overall not taking care of me. So I decided to do something for me. I'm going to get better. I'm going to put on a healthy amount of weight and run a 5k in august.  My kids deserve to have a mom. And someday I would like to have another kid. That isn't going to happen if I cant get better. That being said I will be working on a couch25k program with my best girls. We will do this. We will be around for our kids and each other.
My stats at the moment are sad. I weigh 105lbs.

The Sunbabies and Mama Cloth!

In my previous post about my cloth diaper stash I stated that I would do a review on my Subaby pockets.  I have had plenty of time now to work with them and thoroughly try the out. First and major problem I encountered is probably my fault. The microfiber inserts were not absorbing very well after week 2. They held on to stink badly and it took tons of rinses to get soap out after each wash. Im sure this is no fault of Sunbaby. Mainly because my other inserts were doing it as well. I will state that the pockets are doing a lot better since I started stuffing with flats. I no longer have build up issues. My favorite thing about the Sunbaby is their cut. They fit my skinny almost 12 month old really well and even are made so they dont leak out the top when she decides to sleep on her tummy. At the moment that is all I got and I am sure I will have better stuff to say once I figure out my own washing issues.

On to my latest sewing project. I have made postpartum momma cloth! I used just two types of fabric; fleece and flannel. These are so soft I cant wait to try them out. Ok maybe I can wait LOL.

Update!!!

A lot has happened since my last post. Some good and some bad. Hey isn't that life. There are obstacles but as a mom I can't let them make me fall.
I will start by saying my husband and I have separated. I am not working and I was kicked out without any money to my name. So thanks to the genorosity of family and friends, my daughter and I are making the best of it.
While I am getting bad news out of the way I might as well update on my daughter. We found out she has an allergy to strawberries and peaches. On top of that when we recently tried whole milk she broke out in hives with extreme vomiting. We have switched her to soy formula which thankfully seems to be helping. She still breaks out randomly. I have been asked to keep a log of all foods she is eating and when she breaks up so maybe they can figure out a correlation.  Like I wasnt busy enough trying to find a job, keep myself healthy, and keep my daughter happy.
On a better note, my sweet daughter is turning a year old in just 4 more days. We are doing a small party with a "Hello Kitty" theme. I am going to be blowing up the blog with pictures the day after.  I cant believe how fast they grow up.

Alionna 1 week old!

Alionna 11 months old!

On to the pregnancy! I am 16 weeks and 4 days along!! Even better the gender scan ultrasound is set up for July 5th. Of course I will post the picture and reveal to you all as soon as I know!

I would like to give thanks to my support system! They are amazing even though they are busy mommas themselves. I am tired and I will be on tomorrow to show my awesome amazing Postpartum Cloth Pads I made all on my own.

Cloth Diapering Part One

This is literally the best choice I ever made when it came to my daughter. We made the decision to cloth diaper after my daughter was found to have a sensitivity to disposables. That is what got me, why would someone have a sensitivity to something that was so common? So I did my research and found out how they make a disposable diaper and what absorbs the urine. Ok so the absorbancy part I learned the hard way when a dog tore open a disposable diaper and it was not pretty.  Then we had to figure out a budget for cloth diapers. I didnt want to buy a few diapers here and there I wanted to make the change all at once so this is how I did it.

In August 2011 I had $200 to spend so I got on ebay. I bought a dozen cheap prefolds 4 prorap covers and 30 babyland pocket diapers. I do NOT recommend the babyland diapers. We have had so many problems with them that I will explain later on in this post. The first diapers to ship were the prefolds and covers. I had to prep these diapers and so I took them to a family members house to do this. It took 7 washes and dries before they were even resembling a prefold. This was all I had to cloth diaper our 4 week old daughter with for almost 3 weeks. But I refused to give in and I hand washed those prefolds in my bathroom and hung them to dry on the shower curtain. I lived in an apartment too which made it very difficult. The babylands arrived and I was able to wash these once and dry them. These were the worst investment ever.  I still use them cause Im waiting on the new cloth to get here but they are barely holding up.

In November we moved into our house and I was able to perfect my washing technique. It consists of a cold prerinse to remove the "nasties", Hot/cold wash with 1/2 recommended amount of detergent, extra cold rinse to remove extra soap. Detergent must be free of additives, whiteners, and phosphates. I use Seventh Generation Free & Clear cause it is sold in my local grocery store. As for drying I put anything that does not contain waterproof material, elastic, or wool into the dyer. Everything else hang drys.

So here is my suggestion if you want to go cheap use prefolds and covers. These last the longest and are the most economical. You can also go with pockets from china such as Alvababy, Sunbaby, and Babyland. I just ordered 24 sunbabys so when they get here I will do a review on them. If you dont need to conserve money there are a million cute options for cloth diapering.

I just ordered my newborn stash for all you moms that are getting ready for a new little one. Here is what I ordered. 1 dozen xs prfolds, most moms will actually be able to skip this size because it is most commonly known as preemie but my daughter fit these prefolds for almost a month. 1 dozen sm prefolds, if you are going to skip preemie I would buy 2 dozen of these. 1 best bottom with 3 snap in inserts, I think these are going to be my favorite. 1 bumgenius 4.0 one size pocket, This might take awhile to fit the new baby. 1 thirsties duo diaper cover in size one, 2 proraps in size nb, 1 bummis super whisper wrap in newborn, these are all covers for prefolds. 1 grovia NB AIO, I wanted to try it. Here are some pictures:

Our Wonderful Daughter Ali

I said yesterday that I would explain in further detail about the life of my daughter up until this point. Starting at 20 weeks pregnant with her I had lots of complications. At 26 weeks pregnant I ended up in the hospital for a non-existant iron count and extremely low red blood cell count. After the three day stay I was released but not in the clear. I took iron supplements with my prenatals, both of which made me sick, till the end of my pregnancy. When I was believed to be 39 weeks they decided my red blood cell count was too risky to allow me to go any longer.

On June 29, 2011 at 11:00pm I was admitted to Bergren Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE. The next day at 8am we started the pitocin. I didnt start feeling anything until around 10am. At 11am my head hurt so much and my back felt like it was being torn to pieces so I asked for something to dull the pain. I was given something in my IV and fell asleep instantly. My body obviously had a low tolerance for pain medications that I didnt know about. Sleep didnt last long because I woke up at 11:30 with the feeling of really needing to go to the bathroom. I sat up on the edge of the bed and my water broke. I walked myself to the bathroom before the nurse even entered the room. About 11:45 my contractions started hitting my like a ton of bricks. I swore no more pain medication and NO epidural. At 1:30 I still measured 4cm dialated which is what I was when they started the pitocin. I did not want a c-section. They told me they would let me go as long as baby and I could handle it. So I decided to recieve the epidural. 2:00pm the anesthisiologist arrived to administer the epidural and at 2:30 I was dialated to 10cm. I was so angry at myself for giving in but I had to focus on getting baby out. The doctor arrived at 2:50pm and instructed me to start pushing. The first push was perfect even though I couldnt feel anything chest down. The second push I was told to stop, at which time baby's heart rate dropped and the doctor performed the episiotomy to get her out fast. Third push and she was here. Alionna weighed in at 6lbs 14oz and was 19 3/4inches long. We were later informed that she was aproximately 36 weeks gestation.

On July 2nd we took her home and was weighed 6lbs 5oz. We werent in the clear yet. Our first night it became apparent that she wasnt eating properly. She would latch on for about 5min each breast and then scream for 2min and latch on again. Second night she did tons better but something still didnt feel right. Day 3 at home the nightmare started, she projectile vomited all over me and was screaming at the same time so started choking on it. Her pediatrician (not from bergren mercy) said it was nothing that all babies spit up. Well then she threw up on him. He proceeded to tell me that she was having an allergy to my breastmilk and that she needed to go on formula. I didnt know any better so I quit breastfeeding. We continued to deal with the vomiting for three months following. My daughter gained weight but very slowly and started developmental milestones later and later.

At 3 months of age a friend told us we needed a second opinion at which time we took her to a different doctor. There it was, the proof in the back of her throat, GERD. Her throat was so red that it was a wonder she wasnt screaming all the time. She was put on medication that helped her gain weight more steady but the vomiting went to a steady stream of spitting up about 2ounces every feeding better but not ideal. To this day we battle spit up and weight but thanks to a second opinion she is doing better.

She started army crawling last month and got her first tooth at 7months old. She is standing with support and sitting up on her own. She also weighed 16lbs at her 8month weigh in and goes back to the doctor this coming week.

Welcome to My Extremely Hectic Family

Hello everyone my name is Brittany and I am 21 years old. I am married to a wonderful husband who sometimes I would just love to strangle. Thankfully he has been through thick and thin with me along with allowing me to take us on a journey we would never forget, Parenthood!

We got married on July 15, 2010. August of the same year I decided I wanted a baby and I would do anything to have one. September I quit birth control and November we found out we were pregnant!! at 36 weeks along I delivered my baby girl. Were we surprised to find out she had feeding issues. Milk Soy Protein Intolerance (MSPI) and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).  At three weeks old she developed a sensitivity to Disposable diapers and at five weeks old she started dropping percentiles in weight. We have since with lots of medication been able to control her weight and hold her at a tiny 25th percentile. Now we cloth diaper. At another time I will go into detail about those first few traumatizing months.

When our daughter was just 5 months old we decided to buy our first home. I envisioned my first home to be huge and NEW!! How wrong was I when we decided to buy my husbands childhood home which was in barely livable condition. And instead of fixing it then moving in we just jumped in. Construction with a little one is tons of fun.

And now the kicker, I'M PREGNANT!! Due November 27th, 2012.
